Great Hearts Texas Board Chair Will Deliver Keynote Address to Charter School Leaders

Great Hearts Texas Board Chairperson, Shannon Sedgwick Davis, will be the keynote speaker at the Texas Public Charter Schools Conference next week in San Antonio, an event that is committed to advancing the quality of public charter schools and improving student achievement through strengthening, motivating, and collaborating with Texas charter leaders.  This is the only statewide gathering of 1,600+ leaders and innovators of Texas’ public charter schools.  Attendees will have many opportunities to choose from on cutting-edge trends, best practices, challenges and solutions in public education, as well as in-depth advocacy and Texas Legislature insights for charter schools.

Shannon Sedgwick Davis is the CEO of Bridgeway Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to ending and preventing mass atrocities around the world.  As an attorney, activist, and passionate advocate for social justice, Ms. Sedgwick Davis has guided Bridgeway Foundation in pioneering solutions to difficult issues around the world. Ms. Sedgwick Davis and the Bridgeway Foundation have been credited for their pivotal role in mobilizing awareness, civilian protection, and recovery efforts in Uganda.  In 2019, Sedgwick Davis wrote To Stop a Warlord, the true story of the collaborative work she was involved in to stop the Lord’s Resistance Army and its leader, Joseph Kony, who became the first person ever to be indicted by the International Criminal Court.  In addition to her book, Sedgwick Davis has written for The Huffington Post and has been featured on NBC’s TODAY, TEDxSanAntonio, PBS NewsHour, and in Forbes.

Before joining Bridgeway Foundation in 2007, Ms. Sedgwick Davis served as Vice President of Geneva Global,  a mission-driven company that helps foundations, organizations, and individuals achieve positive social change through effective philanthropy.  She also previously served as the Director of Public Affairs at the International Justice Mission(IJM), a human rights agency that focuses on ending slavery, forced prostitution, and illegal land seizures in the developing world. Her work in helping rescue children from sex trafficking in the Svay Pak village of Cambodia was included in the 2005 Emmy award-winning piece, Children for Sale, on Dateline.

Sedgwick Davis is an honors graduate of McMurry University and Baylor Law School, where she received Baylor’s Young Lawyer of the Year Award 2011 and, in the same year, the Spirit of McMurry Award, given annually to one outstanding alumnus/a.  She currently serves on the advisory council of The Elders and is a board member of several other organizations including Humanity United, charity: water, Verdant Frontiers, and formerly, TOMS.

The conference will be held September 26-28,  2022 at the JW Marriot San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa in San Antonio, Texas.
