monte vista cross country teamThe Great Hearts Monte Vista Cross Country team scored 35 points in the 2A State Championship Cross Country meet in Round Rock, Texas to top the leader board.

The first five runners from each team to cross the finish line receive the points that correspond to their place. The first place runner receives one point, the second place runner two, and so on. The team receiving the lowest score wins.

The sixth and seventh runners on a team, although they don’t receive a score, can also be important, in that they can “displace” scoring runners from the other team.

The GHMV team scored 35 points this weekend. The second place finisher, Valley View High School, finished with 96 points.

With the way the scoring works and how the placement ended, even if we were without our fastest two Seniors who finished 1 and 3 respectively, we still would have walked away with a victory. Outside of that, had we competed at the 3A level of competition, the next iteration above related to enrollment size, with the times and results that were posted from the same weekend, we would have won that race as well.

This is a very special group of young men who have an incredible amount of determination, willpower, and grit. We are all tremendously proud of this group and their coach David Chase who is new to our school this year. Coach Chase has done a fantastic job in optimizing performance, but has also cultivated deep and meaningful relationships with his runners and recognizes the platform he has to positively impact these athletes.

We are grateful for our successful and accomplished Cross Country season this year and we are looking forward to many more victories from Great Hearts Monte Vista.
